Join us for a day of virtual learning dedicated to refining our mathematics and numeracy teaching practices. Be inspired to consider what math is worth doing!
All registrants are invited to hear our live keynote speaker. For the rest of the day, choose from 3 live sessions and 15 self-paced on-demand sessions tailored to your professional learning needs as a Manitoba math educator.
WHY JOIN US THIS YEAR FOR MATH WORTH DOING?
We’ve designed this virtual professional development day to offer choice and meaningful learning for you and your Manitoba math colleagues. Whether you choose to join the live presentations, watch on-demand sessions or a bit of both, our line-up of speakers is eager to share their knowledge and insights to help support your teaching and your students’ learning. From well-known topics like fractions and mathematical reasoning to more unique sessions such as the Human Math Museum and Menu Math, we hope you find several enriching presentations about math worth doing that make for an enjoyable day.
We also have arranged a special giveaway event at the end of our day. Registrants are invited to join us live at 3:00 for a chance to be 1 of 20 educators to walk away with a choice of a valuable resource for their own professional learning or to use in their classroom.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Math Worth Doing: Stop Making Math Useful
Fawn Nguyen, DIRECTOR OF STEM INITIATIVES AT AMPLIFY
FAWN NGUYEN is the Director of STEM Initiatives at Amplify. She spent three years as a math coach for a K-8 school district and taught middle school math for 30 years. She was named Ventura County Teacher of the Year in 2014 and received the Math Teacher Hero Award from Raytheon in 2009. In 2005, she was honored with the Sarah D. Barder Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
She has given talks and led workshops at math conferences in the U.S. and abroad, including New Zealand. Since 2011, she has been part of the UC Santa Barbara Mathematics Project Leadership Team.
In 2012, she co-founded the Math Teachers’ Circle in Thousand Oaks, California. From 2015 to 2018, she served on the Professional Development Services Committee (PDSC) for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).

NAT BANTING is a classroom mathematics teacher with Saskatoon Public Schools who shares his teaching at natbanting.com and instant telegrams as @nat_banting. His work in mathematics education has received a Prime Minister’s Certificate of Excellence in STEM and the Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award recognizing innovation and excellence across Canadian mathematics education.

PAMELA WEBER HARRIS is shifting the way we view and teach mathematics. She is a mom, former high school math teacher, university lecturer, and the founder of Math is FigureOutAble. Math teachers around the world rave about her online Building Powerful Mathematics workshops. For over 20 years, Pam has been helping leaders and teachers reach more students in less time so that students math with confidence and success.

SHELLEY and TARA have been research partners since the start of the Ontario fractions research (led by Dr. Cathy Bruce at Trent University) in 2011, and are co-authors along with Cathy of the resource Rethinking Fractions: 8 Core Concepts to Support Assessment and Learning. Tara is the Director of Research the PEAR Learning Lab (Partners in Education and Action Research) in the Trent University School of Education. Shelley retired from the classroom as a secondary school mathematics teacher after years as a K–12 curriculum consultant and provincial mathematics lead.
