Manitoba Teachers’ Society Professional Development Day

Welcome to the MAMT Professional Development Day

Using Math Manipulatives to Reason in Grades 1-2

If you’re not sure how to use math manipulatives beyond simple counting, this session is for you! Together, we will explore how to use manipulatives like ten frames, base ten blocks, Cuisenaire rods, and rekenreks to spark deep mathematical thinking and reasoning in early elementary. We will also discuss visual models that help build connections between concrete and abstract thinking. If you have manipulatives available to you, please have them handy for this session.
